ESOR/EIBALL COURSE 2019 on Research in diagnostic radiology - how to build the perfect study

November 16, 2019; Vienna/Austria
Course informationThe objective of this course is to learn how to develop a research project to discover and validate an imaging parameter (e.g. radiological sign, perfusion, ADC, diagnostic algorithm, radiomics signature). The morning will be dedicated to basics on imaging biomarkers and principles of measurements (coefficient of variation, reproducibility), statistics (metrics and tests), and clinical trials in diagnostic imaging. In the afternoon, participants will present a research project and work in small groups to develop the workplan for a study. Then, the research projects will be commented and improved by the group as a whole, with discussion on how to avoid common pitfalls. At the end of this course, participants will have acquired the basics to put together a research study in diagnostic imaging.

Learning objectives
  • to understand what an imaging biomarker is
  • to learn about measurement variability and accuracy
  • to review statistics needed to perform a diagnostic study
  • to learn about phases of validation of an imaging biomarker
